The backup is run when you click on start. Wait until the backup is complete; in the meantime you can continue to work on the computer. After a while, the backup notification window will appear:
This is also where you will be notified if any errors occurred during the backup, at which point you can then remedy them. Why are some files not backed up? Are you wondering why not all files were backed up? This can have the following reasons:
The gobal exclusion list can be found in the Tools > Options... menu under "Ausgeschlossene Dateien und Typen (Excluded files and types)..." or simply under "Options".
As this file only contains file thumbnails automatically generated by Windows Explorer, this file is not backed up. (For more information, read the next section as well.)
If you are backing a file up to a number of backup media or in a number of backup folders, then ensure that the option "Only check Archive bit for selecting the files to be backed up" is disabled. Only then can 7-Backup recognize that this file still has to be backed up to the other destination.
Why does 7-Backup display fewer files than Windows? 7-Backup does not back up the following files and also does not display them as found: Thumbs.db Windows®-Explorer displays small thumbnails of images and videos. So that Windows® does not have to create these thumbnails each time the folders are opened, Windows® saves the thumbnails in the file Thumbs.db. Thumbs.db is automatically recreated if it no longer exists. There is therefore no point backing this file up. 7-Backup will exclude this file from the backup by default. This explains why the window often displays fewer files than Windows Explorer does for the value "number of files checked" in the folder's properties. The number of occurrences of Thumbs.db is deducted in the case of 7-Backup. |
