Backup types

When setting up the backup, other programs fequently use terms such as "incremental" or "differential" backup. 7-Backup dispenses with these terms as even IT specialists often have difficulty imagining what they mean. You can of course use every avalable type of backup in 7-Backup as well. There are settings you can use to enable all the backup types. The types of backup are enumerated below with descriptions of the associated settings.

Required settings

Full backup

All files are fully backed up again with each backup. Only the last backup needs to be restored during restoration.

Remove check mark against "Only back up changed files".

Incremental backup

Only those files that have been modified since the last backup are backed up. During restoration, the last full backup needs to be restored first followed by each subsequent incremental backup in succession.

Delete destination
Check archive bit for selection of the files to be backed up

Differential backup

The difference between the last full backup and the current status is backed up. Upon restoration, the full backup has to be restored first and then in a second step the current differential backup.

Delete destination
Check archive bit for selection of the files to be backed up
Do not reset archive bit

Synchronization

Files that are missing on the backup or files that have changed since the last backup, are backed up. Files that have already been deleted on the original are then removed from the backup as well. Only the backup folder needs to be restored during restoration. The backup folder contains an identical copy of the current database.

Remove deleted files from the backup medium as well
